A Teaching of the
Amitabha Buddha Practice
By The Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche

Amitabha Buddha is the Buddha in the Land of Ultimate Bliss (Pure Land), in which all beings enjoy unbounded happiness. In this pure land, the inhabitants are freed from the cycle of birth and death so they can focus single-mindedly on attaining enlightenment.

Amitabha Buddha made forty-eight great vows and each one involved taking living beings to Buddhahood. Amitabha Buddha creates this pure land from his compassion in order to save all living beings that have faith in him and to bring them to rebirth in his pure land so that they can continue to practice until they all attain enlightenment.

It was the 1st Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche who revealed the Amitabha sadhana text that we practice today. Karma Thegsum Choling –New Jersey is very honored to have The Very Venerable 7th Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche teaching the practice of Amitabha Buddha and giving the Amitabha empowerments.

Yongey Mingyur Dorje Rinpoche is the undisputed rebirth of the terton (treasure revealer), who lived in the seventeenth century. His termas include the sadhanas of Karma Pakshi, padmavajra and Amitayus, and form the basis for much of the present-day practice of the Karma Kagyu tradition. The present 7th Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche was recognized by His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa. Rinpoche lives, studies and teaches at Tai Situ Rinpoche’s monastery of Sherab Ling where he entered his first long retreat at the age of thirteen and subsequently became Retreat Master for a further two retreats. Rinpoche has received teachings and transmissions from many great masters of Kagyu and Dzogchen lineages.
