Compassion, putting others before oneself, is the root of happiness and the antidote to suffering. The deity Chenrezig (Avalokiteśvara) is the essence of compassion of all the buddhas and bodhisattvas. As a bodhisattva, Chenrezig has vowed to defer his own enlightenment, to help all beings attain enlightenment.
The Gyalwang Karmapa is himself an emanation of the deity Chenrezig; and the opportunity to receive from His Holiness teaching on Compassion and the empowerment to practice 1,000-Armed Chenrezig is indeed an auspicious blessing
