17 Karmapas' History:

The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi (1204-1283)

  • Born to a noble family of yogins in eastern Tibet.
  • Had a broad understanding of Buddhist philosophy and practice before the age of ten.
  • Spent much of his time in the first half of his life in mediation retreat and is also famous for introducing the chanting of the Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hung to the Tibetan people.
  • Traveled through China at the invitation of Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan and performed many spectacular miracles there.
  • Composed over a hundred volume of texts which once were enshrined at the monastic library at Tsurphu
  • Told the details of the next Karmapa's birth to his main disciple, Orgyenpa.
